The Power of the Blood of Jesus - Part 1

May 21, 2014 at 4:40 PM

Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

A great tragedy happened, in a nation, some decades ago, when three denominations went back through hymnals and removed those that spoke about the blood.  Hymns like ‘What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus” “There’s Power in the blood”. They said the blood was an anachronism – out of date.  As result of that action, during a 12 month period in that nation, they closed down 100 churches of one denomination and opened up 50 Islamic mosques.  At one stage they had more practitioners of witchcraft per capita then any other nation in the Western World.  And this is the nation in which some of its religious leaders said ‘we don’t need the blood, we won’t preach the blood’.  But if you take the blood out of Christianity it becomes lifeless and dead.  If you take the blood out of the gospel men die in their sins without God, without hope. We must stand before lost humanity at every opportunity and preach the blood, because without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.

When you take blood away from being a central to Christianity, the door is opened for Satan to come in. No other single truth is more constantly spoken of in scripture. From Genesis to Revelation you can trace the flow of Gods’ redeeming blood.

Leviticus 17:11

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’

Life of the creature is in the blood. Life is in blood.  Once blood stops flowing, your dead.  As important blood is to physical life, so is the blood of Jesus, to our spiritual life.  We only come alive spiritually when we avail ourselves of Jesus’ blood and the life of God flows into us.

Victory Through The Blood

Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

One reason many Christians today are feeble, sick and fearful is they have not been taught to use blood. Satan has to leave when blood is honored, he cannot stand before it. As soon as a Christian has the blood of Jesus on his tongue, sings about it, talks about it, the devil gets very disturbed. Satan knows the power of blood so has done everything possible to blind Christians to this truth. Some Christians today want nothing to do with slaughterhouse religion yet it is one of the greatest keys to walking in victory.

Outpourings of the Spirit and revival

Outpouring of the Spirit in 1907 in London began when Jesus appeared to a humble housewife Catherine Price. She went to a meeting few days later when the Spirit came on her and she cried out “how can you sing so listlessly, so apathetically so carelessly about the blood of Jesus Christ”. The effect on the audience was so powerful some fell on their faces; others ran out of the meeting in fear. From then on many people visited her home and were baptised in the Holy Spirit. The theme of her meetings was - behold the lamb of God, and by the outpoured blood of Jesus the gift of the Holy Spirit was purchased. With that emphasis on the blood a great move of the Holy Spirit began in London. Soon the Spirit poured out in Sunderland, also in Valparaiso Chile, each time the theme of the revival was the blood of Jesus. It is true that when revival breaks out, often there comes a renewed focus on the preaching of the blood.

Hebrews 9:25

not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another—

The Children of Israel, God’s people, understood the vital place of the blood. They knew without shedding of blood there was no removal of sin. All the blood sacrifices repeated over and over pointed to the one great final sacrifice of the blood of Jesus that would cover all sin for all time for all people, in every generation. Enough power in the blood to cover every sin we ever commit. Bible says we have atonement through the blood. Atonement means a covering. His blood covers every sin we commit. The scene of Calvary was manifestly one of blood; it would have been a horrific scene as every last drop of Jesus blood was spilt for you and me.

 Romans 4:7

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;

Today we can be saved, every sin covered, only possible through the blood of Jesus. Nothing else can cover sins.

  Ephesians 1:7

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

Through the blood of Jesus we have forgiveness of sins. As far as the east is from the west so far has he removed our sins from us.

Romans 5:9

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

We have been justified by his blood.  Justified, just as if we had never sinned. We can feel overwhelmed with guilt and feel God can’t forgive us. We try to feel forgiven, but we can’t do it. The Blood is for God to see, he is satisfied.

In some cases we have learned about the Spirit but reduced teaching on blood. That produces Christians who are empowered by Spirit but don’t feel forgiven. We must preach the blood so people experience and feel forgiven.

There is power in the blood.
